Thane Metro Rail Project Details
Thane, one of the major cities in Maharashtra, has a population with more than 2.5 million which makes it’s the 4th largest city of Maharashtra. Its growing at a rate of 8% yearly which makes it the fastest growing city of Maharashtra. City host the greater number of service-based organization and is a major industrial and commercial hub in Maharashtra which solve the local employment problem of city.
However, the city growing more faster than prediction which leads to the more population in city. The increment of business and residents has created a higher demand of transportation in city.
To address the growing transportation needs of thane, The Central Government of India & Maharashtra government taken the initiative of thane integral metro rail project to provide seamless transportation facilities into the city.
Thane Metro Project Details
The Central Government of India approved the project in August 2024 with an estimated total cost of 12,200 crore (Indian Rupee).
Thane metro rail project includes a 29km of route with 22 station which almost covering the major areas of city. Approximately, 90% part of project has been elevated while the 10% parts will be underground including 2 of the stations.
The Thane Metro Project offers connectivity to Indian Railways, Mumbai Metro Line 4, and Line 5 at thane junction & dongripada respectively.

On 5th October 2024, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Thane Internal Ring Metro Rail Project, The construction of metro project is expected to be completed by 2029. Thane Metro Design & Construction Agencies
The Thane Metro Rail Project is currently in the tendering and bidding process which is managed by Mahametro. The tender details are available on the official MahaMetro Website. However, The MahaMetro received the initial proposals from five consultants to design approximately 8 km of the total route. The name of consultant are listed as below:

Among them, Stup Consultants submitted the lowest bid compared to the others.
